SPECIFICATION CRITERIA/SUGGESTED USES |
As already emphasized, aggressive chemical
substances, over all the acidulous ones, are more and more present in
our environment. Its incidence comes mainly from anthropogenic actions,
involving manipulation of domestic and industrial products, and from
acid rains produced by the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, etc.).
Areas not polluted by anthropogenic sources, such as swamps, quagmires,
and volcanic areas can also generate acid composites due to the natural
emissions of sulfur (SO2). Likewise in tropical regions, acid rains
can be generated by the atmospheric contamination by organic acids (carboxylic),
once vegetation is an important natural source of emission of hydrocarbons.
From these references and elements for analysis, collected through works
simulating alterations, it becomes strengthened the need for a conciliation
between aesthetic and technique, in order to reach specification and
adequacy for the use of ornamental stones and covering.
First of all, it is necessary to distinguish the carbonate stones, appointed
generically as marbles and travertine, from the silicate and siliceous
stones, denominated granites and quartzites .
